Sometimes the clarion 16bit IDE can be a real pain in the ass, especially if the 16 bit subsystem decides that it has to boot you out of clarion (which it has done for me lots of times). This post is based on XP Pro btw.
As some of you might already know, a couple of months or so back, I came across this site, after talking to Viggo Kleven. It talks about the issues, and has what it calls “An illegal, dangerous, patch that could solve the problem for you”.
Well after having to reboot my machine 5 times in the last two days, I decided to install the “An illegal, dangerous, patch that could solve the problem for you” new version.
The original site describes ways of how to install the new dll, although I didn’t quite follow it.
This was what I did
Download the new version of the wow32.dll. You will need to rename it to wow32.dll.
Download this utility. It temporarily turns off the windows file protection for selected folders. When installed. Turn off protection for \Windows\system32 folder.
Rename the wow32.dll in the \windows\system32 folder to oldwow32.dll
Copy the new downloaded wow32.dll to the \windows\system32 folder as well as the \windows\system32\dllcache folder.
<————Modification————————->
As a side note: The DLLcache folder is located at C:\WINDOWS\System32\Dllcache
(assuming C: is your system root which it probably is.)
NB – The dllcache folder is extremely important so Windows XP hides it from
you! To view it go to: My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View >
“uncheck” Hide protected operating system files.

Thanks to Charles Edmonds for that snippet
Reboot.
That’s pretty much it. The only thing I have noticed is that the clarion boot splash gets a little strange.

Other than that, all seems OK.
Viggo has reported many a time that since he downloaded and installed this dll he has had no problems. Its to early to say for me, but I will let you know.
If you do this procedure, note that I can’t be held responsible for your actions ![]()
